Dihydroxybenzenes, also known as benzenediols, exist as
chemical mixtures which are organic in nature. In these chemical compounds, two
hydroxyl groups are replaced on top of a ring of benzene. These aromatic
compounds are classified as phenols. Three isomers of dihydroxybenzenes exist.
First one is 1, 3-benzenediol which is the meta isomer, also usually called
resorcinol. The second one is 1, 2-benzenediol which is the ortho isomer, also
usually called catechol. And the third one is 1, 4-benzenediol which is the
para isomer, also usually called hydroquinone.
